territory and recognition

Slovakia and the European Union.

Slovakia is a member of the European Union, so certified translations are accepted before Slovak authorities in business, employment and education procedures.

We do not obtain Apostilles and do not determine the order of certifications; please check what is required, and in what order, with the institution receiving the document.

apostille explained

When your document needs an Apostille.

An Apostille does not certify the translation: it confirms that the signature and stamp on the original public document are genuine.

Where a Slovak institution requires one, it should be in place before the certified translation is prepared, so the appointed court interpreter can translate the Apostille itself along with the document it accompanies.

Between EU member states many public documents circulate without additional legalisation, yet individual offices still set their own conditions, and practice varies by document type.

Our advice is always the same: ask the receiving institution in Slovakia or Croatia exactly what it expects, send us that answer, and we will sequence the certifications correctly from the start.

Frequently asked questions

Have any questions?

Not always. Within the EU many public documents are accepted without additional legalisation, but individual Slovak offices may still ask for an Apostille on the original. Bilingua recommends confirming the requirement with the receiving institution first. The certified Slovak translation is then prepared by an appointed court interpreter in the correct sequence, so nothing has to be redone.
Certification for the Slovak pair is carried out by permanent court interpreters appointed by the Croatian Ministry of Justice. Bilingua arranges Slovak through its network of appointed interpreters and delivers each translation bound, with the interpreter's stamp and signature, for use before courts, employers and public authorities.
They confirm different things. The Apostille vouches for the origin of the original public document, while the certified translation renders its content into Slovak or Croatian with the legal force of an appointed court interpreter's stamp and signature. Some procedures need both, in a set order. Bilingua advises checking with the receiving institution and then handles the translation stage.
Yes. Send your enquiry and a legible scan of the document by e-mail or through the form on this page, we confirm the quote and deadline by e-mail, and the whole arrangement is handled remotely. A certified translation is a physical document with the seal and signature of the court interpreter for Slovak, so you collect it in person or as agreed.
