service

A court interpreter is an authorised person appointed by the Ministry of Justice who, with their seal and signature, confirms the official translation of a document.

Certification is mandatory for documents you submit to competent authorities: diplomas and certificates, birth, marriage and other civil-status records, personal documents, court judgments and files, and documentation for courts, notaries, embassies and recognition procedures (nostrification).

For translations without certification, for internal and business use, see written translations.

Whether or not certification is required is generally decided by the institution you submit the document to, so if you are unsure, check its requirements before ordering.

We work with a network of permanent court interpreters for European languages, and the deadline and method of delivery are arranged depending on the document, the language and the requirements of the procedure.

review of the official document

A certified translation with seal and signature.

A sworn translation must be accurate, complete and consistent with the original before it receives the court interpreter's seal and signature. That is why, before certification, we check the text, the data, the format and every element of the document that goes into official submission.

Documents with a stamp and a pen on a desk — certified translations by court interpreters
Conformity

The translation follows the source document, including markings, headings, tables and official notes.

Names and numbers

We pay particular attention to personal names, dates, registry entries, amounts and any data that must not be rendered incorrectly.

Seal and binding

Before delivery we agree on the required number of copies, the method of certification, binding and the form of submission.

Official use

The certified translation is prepared for submission to institutions, universities, employers or other competent authorities.

Specialisations

Documents we certify.

These are the documents for which a certified translation is most often required. The translator and court interpreter are selected according to the language, the type of document and the intended use of the translation. For foreign workers' documents (residence and work permit, driving licence, recognition of qualifications) see our separate page.

How we work

From enquiry to a certified translation.

In your enquiry, state the type of document, the languages and the deadline, and attach a legible original. You will receive our quote with the price and deadline, and we prepare the certified translation once you confirm.

01
Send your enquiry

In the form, select certified translation, the source language, the target language and the desired deadline, and attach the document. A legible scan or photo is enough — you only need to provide the original if the institution receiving the translation requires it to be bound with the original.

02
We send a quote

After receiving the document, we send a quote with the price, deadline and delivery method. The method of delivering the certified translation and all other terms are agreed before work begins — the whole arrangement can be made remotely, by e-mail or phone.

03
Confirmation and certification

After your confirmation, the appropriate court interpreter takes over the document. The translation is prepared, signed and certified with a seal, and then sent by post or collected in person by arrangement. A digital copy for review can be sent by e-mail.

Frequently asked questions

Have questions?

A certified (sworn) translation is signed and confirmed with a seal by an authorised court interpreter appointed by the Ministry of Justice. Such a translation is used in official procedures when an authority or institution requires a certified translation. A standard translation has no court interpreter's seal or signature.
For use abroad, the requirements depend on the country and the authority to which the document is submitted. The competent authority may require additional formalities or legalisation, so these conditions should be checked before submitting the document.
For most documents, a good-quality copy or a digital scan is sufficient. However, for some official procedures institutions may require the court interpreter to be given access to the original. We recommend checking with the institution receiving the certified translation.
The deadline depends on the type of document, the language and the amount of text. Simpler documents can be ready quickly, while more complex documentation requires an individual assessment.
The price is determined solely by examining the document and depends on the type and length of the document, the language combination, the deadline, the availability of the court interpreter and the delivery method. Standardised documents can be assessed quickly, while more extensive legal, business or medical documentation requires an individual quote.
Bilingua arranges certified translations by court interpreters for more than 25 European languages: English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, the languages of the region, and Scandinavian and Central European languages. Each language has a dedicated page with details, and for rarer combinations we confirm interpreter availability on request.
We can send a digital copy of the translation for review or record-keeping. For official submission, a bound, physical copy with the court interpreter's original seal and signature is required.
A sworn translator — in Croatia formally a permanent court interpreter (stalni sudski tumač) — is appointed by the Ministry of Justice under the Courts Act and the Ordinance on Permanent Court Interpreters. Their seal and signature make a translation an official document accepted by courts, notaries and public authorities. Bilingua arranges sworn translations in more than 25 European languages.
