Apostille, languages and deadline.

names and spelling

One person, one spelling.

In civil-status procedures the smallest detail carries the most weight: a surname with a diacritic, a transliterated first name, a maiden name recorded differently across two registries.

The certified translation reproduces names and dates exactly as the original states them, because the receiving authority matches your documents letter by letter against your passport and each other.

If a name appears in different forms in your paperwork (for instance in documents issued in a country using another script), tell us before the translation is prepared and state the spelling used in your passport.

The interpreter can then apply that form consistently, and note the variant where the original demands it, which prevents queries at the counter.

Frequently asked questions

Have any questions?

Foreign registry offices most often ask for a certified translation of your birth certificate, certificate of no impediment (or certificate of free marital status) and, where relevant, proof of citizenship. The exact list varies by country, so confirm it with the registry office first. Bilingua certifies these documents into English in-house through its own sworn court interpreter.
Often yes, though the rule comes from the Croatian institution that will receive your certificate, not from the translator. Where an apostille is needed, have it added to the original first: the interpreter can then include it in the certified translation into Croatian. Confirm what your registry office or other authority expects before ordering, and Bilingua will certify the birth certificate together with its apostille as a single set.
The interpreter transliterates names according to the rules of the target language, while keeping them consistent with your passport wherever you provide the passport spelling. That consistency is what registry offices check first, so mention any preferred or previously used spelling when you place your order with Bilingua, and every certificate will carry the same form of your name.
