Consecutive interpreting.

Consecutive interpreting means the interpreter translates after the speaker finishes a shorter section, working from notes and with no technical equipment. Bilingua provides consecutive interpreters in Zagreb and across Croatia for meetings, negotiations and official occasions — and has done so since 1994.

how it works

Translation after the speaker.

The speaker presents a shorter section and pauses, and the interpreter then renders what was spoken into the target language with the help of notes.

Because the speaker and the interpreter alternate, you should plan roughly twice as much time for the event, which is why consecutive interpreting is best suited to smaller gatherings.

when it is used

Meetings, negotiations and official situations.

It requires neither a booth nor special equipment. All that is needed is the interpreter beside the participants. We also interpret consecutively remotely, at business meetings and interviews held by video conference, for example via Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

Business meetings Negotiations Seminars and workshops Notary Court and hearings Formal occasions
legal context

Before a court and a notary, a sworn court interpreter.

In official situations and in a legal context, for example before a court, a notary or state authorities, the interpreting is carried out by a permanent sworn court interpreter who is not just a translator. Read more about this on the certified translations and court interpreters page.

Frequently asked questions

Have any questions?

No. An interpreter who takes notes is enough, with no booth and no technical setup.
Yes. Because speech and interpreting alternate, plan for roughly twice as much time.
A sworn court interpreter, whose status guarantees the authenticity of the oral translation.
Yes. For meetings and interviews held by video conference we agree on the platform, for example Zoom or Microsoft Teams, and test the connection before the appointment. The method is the same as on site — the speaker pauses and the interpreter translates.
