area and recognition

Bulgaria and the European Union.

Bulgaria is a member of the European Union, so certified translations are accepted before Bulgarian authorities in administrative, educational and business procedures.

We do not obtain Apostilles and do not determine the order of certifications; please check what is required, and in what order, with the institution receiving the document.

how certification works

From Cyrillic original to certified translation.

Court interpreters for Bulgarian are appointed by the Croatian Ministry of Justice. Bilingua engages them through a network built up since 1994. The interpreter translates the document in full, adds the certification clause, and binds the translation to the source text with a stamp and signature, so that the two travel together as one official document.

Bulgarian brings one extra step: the Cyrillic script. Personal and place names have to be transliterated consistently, and where you already hold a passport or an earlier translated document, we follow the spelling used there.

That small check prevents the mismatches that make a registry office or university return an otherwise correct file.

Frequently asked questions

Have any questions?

A certified Bulgarian translation in Croatia may only be produced by a permanent court interpreter for Bulgarian appointed by the Croatian Ministry of Justice. Bilingua arranges Bulgarian certified translations through appointed interpreters it works with regularly. Every finished translation bears the interpreter's stamp, signature and binding.
The court interpreter transliterates Bulgarian Cyrillic names into the Latin alphabet following consistent rules. If you already have a passport, visa or earlier certified translation, Bilingua asks you to send it so the same spelling is kept throughout, because authorities compare documents letter by letter and inconsistent names are a common reason files are queried.
It depends on the institution receiving the document. Bulgaria and Croatia are both party to the Hague Apostille Convention, and many universities and employers do ask for one. Bilingua recommends checking with the receiving institution first: if an Apostille is required, it should normally be affixed before the certified translation, so the interpreter can translate it too.
Yes. Send your enquiry and a legible scan of the document by e-mail or through the form on this page, we confirm the quote and deadline by e-mail, and the whole arrangement is handled remotely. A certified translation is a physical document with the seal and signature of the court interpreter for Bulgarian, so you collect it in person or as agreed.
